Many Americans dream of moving to Europe and living an ex-pat life. Cynthia Chaplin did just that. Born and raised in Shaker Heights, Ohio. While attending college in Connecticut where she majored in English and Psychology, Chaplin was introduced to fine wines by attending tastings. Her love for writing led her initially into a publishing career. Chaplin moved to Europe in 1990 where she lived in Spain, Belgium and Italy. Living in Europe accelerated her interest in having a full-time career in wine and she enrolled in several wine education and certification programs. In 2012, and she chose to make Italy her permanent home.
Like many journalists, Chaplin juggles many roles: wine educator and competition judge, consultant and Italian tour group leader wine lecturer. She is a Vinitaly International Academy Certified Italian Wine Ambassador, a professional Sommelier with Fondazione Italiana Sommelier and the Worldwide Sommelier Association, a member of Le Donne del Vino, and a Professor of Italian wine and culture.
Chaplin’s articles have been published in Maze Row VOICES Magazine for Gallo, Italy Magazine and Bellissimo. She is a co-author of Wine Democracy (2022) and Editorial Curator and Contributor to Italian Wine Unplugged 2.0 (2023), the winner of the OIV Award in 2023.
