October brings a convivium of wine events to New York, from portfolio tastings to special presentations by countries and regions. The centerpiece was the New York Wine Experience held October 17-19 at the New York Marriott Marquis. We always enjoy attending the first evening Grand Tasting which is the ultimate industry night of wine colleagues and exceptional wines, all rated 90 points or higher by The Wine Spectator magazine. There was a gem to taste at every table we visited.

Drops of liquid gold.  Chateau d’Yquem, NY Wine Experience

While statistics point to an overall decline in wine consumption, enthusiasm was strong at the New York Wine Experience. The New York Marriott Marquis was packed with fine wine aficionados, all in good spirits and ready to taste top-scoring older vintages, rare finds and a new discovery or two.

The wine producers who flew in from all points of the globe were also in good spirits as the 2024 harvest was drawing to a close. Also putting everyone in a positive frame of mind was knowing that the money spent to attend this high-ticket event not only delivers exceptional wines but also enriches the lives of aspiring students of wine, food and hospitality. Proceeds from the New York Wine Experience support The Wine Spectator Scholarship Foundation, which provides grants and scholarships to a wide variety of wine-related and culinary programs. To date, more than $30 million has been raised thanks to the generosity of vintners and wine lovers around the world.

Once again, the industry proves that fine wines of exceptional quality will always have enduring appeal. We sip and celebrate the fruit of the vine with pure pleasure! Sober October, you are so over!

Many of the producers in attendance have been guests on The Connected Table Live, now in its 11th year. Here are few vignettes.
