Dr. Liz Thach MW has received more than 30 awards and accolades, presented at more than a 100 conferences, published more than 200 articles and written nine acclaimed books throughout her wine industry career. And she has found time to visit nearly all 70 of the world’s wine regions. Since August 2023 she has served as President of the nonprofit Wine Market Council (WMC) which produces some heavy hitting research data of interest to anyone in the role of producing, buying and selling wine and building and retaining wine customers. She keeps her finger on the pulse of the wine industry and her eye on consumer trends and habits and other developments that impact the present and future of wine.
The 7th woman in the USA, and first in California, to become a Master of Wine (MW), Dr. Thach holds a PhD in Human Resource Development, a career she held for more than a decade before transitioning to Sonoma State University to teach management and wine business classes in the college’s B.A. and MBA programs for 23 years. She now teaches wine part time for Stanford Continuing Studies.

Research continues to be a major part of Dr. Thach’s work in her 20- year career in the wine industry. She works closely with Wine Market Council Director of Research Christian Miller to spearhead different studies. The organization has recently partnered with EthniFacts, to launch a study to better understand younger and multicultural consumers.
