Oysters on the Half Shell is a traditional New Year's dish for us. These oysters from Scotland's North Sea were plump and chewy with a pleasant brine.

We started with these Scottish beauties for our New Year's dinner at The Palmerston in Edinburgh. This restaurant changes its menu frequently. On December 31, there was a cassoulet for two, brandade with lightly hard-boiled egg and seaweed, parsnip purée soup, truffled tagliatelle with shaved Brussels sprouts, and roasted partridge served over spaetzle and mushrooms.

And bottles of English sparkling wine and French champagne 🍾 throughout.

Singing "Auld Lang Syne" at midnight

And for New Year's Day the "First Footin" means visiting houses bearing gifts of food, whisky, and lumps of coal.

The traditional New Year's Day is a savory steak pie. We "first footed" into Hectors (@hectorsstockbridge) located in the delightful Stockbridge neighborhood to share a steak pie (pictured), a creamy seafood pie of haddock and prawns and a Guinness ale.

Discovered these beautifully packaged Scottish Highlands gins at family-run @kinraradistillery. The different animal illustration on each label depicts the local botanicals used in each specific gin. Kinrara Gin is currently not available in the U.S.A., but here's hoping it will be! We picked up a few mini bottles to bring back home.
